Africa Report Part 2: Visiting April Gulley and The Bernie Project in Uganda

The journey continued! Janet and Steve visited good friend April Gulley in Kampala, Uganda. After all, it was "only" a good 300 miles through Central Africa - an all-day car trip.

You may remember: April started her non-profit The Bernie Project in June 2013 to assist children at the Wakiso School of Hope in Uganda. This visit was just in time to say "Happy Anniversary"!
Many of our friends in the event industry support The Bernie Project. So we thought it's a good time to get an update on April's courageous adventure. Here the official report:


 So what has The Bernie Project accomplished in a year with your help?

 -We have provided 7 months of food: 3 meals a day for 300 children.

 -We have provided 100 AFRIpad Menstrual Kits.

 - Provided 10 Tiva Water Filters to WSH to ensure the kids have access to clean drinking water. 

 -Paid Secondary School fees for 4 children. 

 -We have provided basic hygiene supplies bathing soap, laundry soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, Vaseline and hankies for 3 terms to 300 children. This term we included two pairs of knickers for all the kids. 

 -We have hired our first local employee, Frank Balamaze, who acts as our Program Manager and has been a tremendous asset. I know he will help take our organization to the next level in providing greater services to the people of Uganda.

Janet: "We had a great time visiting April and her new Ugandan family. Seeing the very basic needs of the children here in Kampala made us realize yet again how advantaged we really are. Mahadi -the boy who inspired The Bernie Project, Michael and Shanta are just blossoming. It was wonderful to visit April. We truly admire her dedication to her cause and her tireless work for her organization!  New developments are happening soon! The next update will be out in a few weeks!

We recently had a Fabulous Tour of the Fabulous Forum, courtesy of our friend Jill Przelenski, Director, Special Events & Family Entertainment. In a nutshell: the re-invented Forum deserves the media hype it received. Eagles' Glenn Frey exclaimed: “The Forum is the best sounding large building anywhere in the world. Take my word for it, we’ve played them all.” It also offers exquisite event space possibilities that allow us to create a VIP Experience of any size! The legendary Forum Club serves as special entrance for private and corporate events. It's a VIP Experience from the first moment onward as this area has special parking privileges and street access.  Painting and maintenance crews were hard at work inside and outside of  the new hall that reopened in January 2014.  Jill Przelenski: "We don't allow any wear and tear. Inspiration: The Red Line and Elements - Art Projects by Doron Gazit

San Luis Obispo Museum of Art - wrapped in The Red Line by Doron Gazit. Since we last checked in with Doron Gazit, the artist and industrial designer has lined multiple locations in California with The Red Line and his art work is currently on exhibit at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art as well as The Loft at Liz's in Los Angeles. He is being mentioned in one breath with Cristo! We look forward to working with Doron to wrap an environmentally themed event. We were happy to report on The Red Line at the Dead Sea in September 2015. In the 8 months since, Doron has installed his environmental awareness art project in several locations in drought ravaged California. As always The Red Line concept highlights the impact of Global Warming on the environment. In December of 2015, The Red Line snaked through the Pyramid Lake burn area, just North of Los Angeles. Our Floral Designer Rebecca Motus featured on ABC's The Bachelor on Valentine's Day

Love was on the air last night on ABC's 20th Anniversary Valentine's Day Special of The Bachelor; also covered by People Magazine. The floral decor was designed and created by none other than our floral designer Rebecca Fernandez Motus. We are really proud of Rebecca Motus' achievement: designing and creating all the florals for this primetime TV event! Rebecca: "I met the producers of the show through a friend who recommended me when they were looking for a designer to create the floral decor for this 20th anniversary extravaganza. It was a wonderful opportunity to show my work to millions of people. The special was filmed at the St. Regis Monarch Beach and as everything in television, it took many, many hours to produce this 2-hour special. I spent five days on set, building the floral decor. And those 5 nights were pretty much sleepless. Many days we worked until midnight and I had to get to the Downtown Flower Market by 3AM to get fresh flowers. However, des
