EventWorks Presents: Confessions of a DJ

Dear Friends!

We are always amazed by DJ Matt's talent for choosing the greatest musical mix for any event. So we are wondering: what drives him? Where do these ideas come from? We have been probing .... Matt agreed to "confess" and reveal some of the sources of the musical magic. For starters, he reveals his admiration for David Byrne and Talking Heads.

"Well, this isn't so much a confession at this point, as it is, simply sockin' it to ya with the truth!! Music is a primordial force, a life-affirming, liberating power. In the famous Walter Pater quote "All art aspires to the condition of music" I believe he meant this not only figuratively, but literally, as music literally is a physical force (that of actual physical vibrations etc ) ! This "force" has driven my entire life ever since I can remember and I have been very fortunate with my career as a DJ, not only for being hired by the great people of EventWorks, but by being able to share in the sheer joy of communing, celebrating life and liberating people by taking them on a journey musically at every event I play.

I have many musical heroes who I've learned from and who exemplify greatly this experience of music, and David Byrne of The Talking Heads is a big one.  He has just recently come out with a fascinating and extraordinary book called " How Music Works" that explores the history, origins, making of, behind the scenes perspective and business of music. This is an excellent read and gift for anyone interested in exploring the many facets of music as well as highly entertaining accounts, confessions and stories of a member of one of the most famous of 80's bands. The enhanced eBook works like a regular eBook, but there are many short musical snippets embedded in the digital file to serve as examples of the various music talked about in the book! Enjoy!"  ~ DJ Matt Cornwall

We are putting it on our Holiday Wish list!

Wishing you a happy week!
