Event Report: We ❤️ California - And This California Themed Event Design

700 guests, 3 days in the gorgeous ocean-front Terranea Resort, we had the pleasure of being tasked with designing an event to promote the Golden State, Home Sweet Home California.

Our Director of Design Kate Brack and Floral Artist Rebecca Motus were thrilled to apply a palette of pop colors to various iconic design objects, such as the California bear and our state flower, the poppy.

"We were tasked with creating a design highlighting California for an event in the tourism industry. Kate excelled at creating a colorful theme based on iconic California objects that we wove through every aspect of the event. For all the floral we focused on poppies in bright blue, orange and greens. Poppies are such gorgeous flowers and the pop color arrangements gave the whole ballroom an instant California feel. Furthermore we created photo opportunities throughout the event that were all designed to be social media friendly. The largest piece was the stock bar that we completely customized with little pop color buttons and poppy appliquées and the event hashtag #CALove glow sign. We added custom created giveaways for every guest. We enlisted a local origami artist to handcraft three shapes based on the event theme and decor: a heart, a bear and a poppy that were placed with each table setting for little takeaways. The overall pop color effect transformed the ballroom into a California Dream. The attendees' response was wonderful. Everyone was taking photos and participating in interactive opportunities."


"We love to design and create community art projects for events. It is a very effective way to engage the guests and create a conversation. And, of course, a social media moment.

We very much loved this bear project that was designed and created by our friends at Destination Concepts. It was open for the 3-day duration of the conference and started as a simple outline of pins. It was a great success. The guests kept adding strings throughout the event, adding to the bear shape and filling it with colors. It became a favorite selfie backdrop as well for souvenir photos."
