Fire Works and Tweet Storm Over Manhattan!

Imagine a low of 33 degrees, wind gusts reaching 35mph and wind driven rain coming in sideways! Yes, those were the conditions we faced on April 15th for a mostly outdoor event for 1,600 guests on Ellis and Liberty Islands, New York!

Our biggest worry: an extensive and intricate display of fire works that were an important element of this celebration for a Chinese client. We decided to stick to Plan A and went ahead - and we got lucky! The fire works were a huge hit with our guests - and many New Yorkers!

We did not just light up the sky over the Hudson River - we generated local media coverage and  a Tweet Storm!

Here some great tweets we happened to catch!

Local reporters got into it!

From Trish Regan, Anchor and Editor-at-Large, @BloombergTV, Street Smart with Trish Regan Daily at 3pm E & Columnist @USATODAY

From John Healy, Online Sports Editor for @NYDNSports. @QuinnipiacU '12. Huge baseball fan. YUGE Francesa followah. I once live-tweeted Bring It On.

From Tom Wrobleski, the political editor of the Advance. He works out of the newspaper's bureau office in Staten Island Borough Hall.

And many opinionated New Yorkers took notice! And rumors got started! Was this an attack? A secret government experiment in experimental weather weapons? Celebration of Tax Day? Passover?

Despite the city's official warning:
NYC OEM - Notify NYC ‏@NotifyNYC  Apr 15
There will be a fireworks display over Ellis Island tonight at approximately 9:45 PM.

We even made a blog!

We have never ever had this kind of public response to an event in over 30 years. Well, when we started we did not even have cell phones! And the internet did not exist. But we cannot imagine any other city getting this involved and passionate about what's going on.

New Yorkers, THANK YOU for noticing and sharing! We had a blast in your city in more ways than one!

We hope to be back soon!
